The Boys Need A Bedroom Makeover

Sharing is caring!

When we bought our first house, I couldn’t wait to personalize it and make it our own, but I made one BIG mistake.

I decided to let the kids pick the colors for their rooms. I can’t shift all the blame because I did tell them they could choose any color that was on the quilts I picked for their beds.

John Jr. decided on a light blue (which is now Anna’s room) and Jordan went with orange! I have regretted it since I saw the first wall. While it’s not terrible, it is also not relaxing. Your bedroom should be a place where you can rest, not a room where it looks like the sun shines 24 hours a day!

Yes, it’s that bright!

The paint is really not my biggest concern at this point. My first goal is to get new beds.

The boys had regular wooden beds before I got these horrible “prison” beds. I saw these beds in a deep discount store and because they also transform into chairs I thought, why not?

Why not?

Let me tell you why:

The padding is super thin and NOT comfortable, and the beds break easily. They no longer turn into chairs, and one of the legs broke off so now they don’t even lay right, they lean.

Unfortunately, for the boys, I gave their sister one bed and gave the other away.

The last part of the room that has to change is the wall decals. They have got to go. When I redo the room I would like to go with more mature decor that will last a few years. I would also like to add more personality by using more photography (mainly pictures of family and friends).

As for the beds, I would like to go back to bunk beds, either a twin/full or maybe just a twin/twin and a double bed. That way our family can stay at our house instead of a hotel. I would like to go with natural color in the boy’s room, and white in Lexi’s.

I think we will probably just paint the walls white because we will be selling the house in a few years and people often take room color into consideration when buying a house because they just can’t visualize the room in a different color. Not only that but if we use white the boys are free to change bedding themes as often as they like, without worrying about matching the walls.

I would love to get a few pieces of furniture as well. Maybe a new bookcase, some kind of storage system for their toys, and shelves to show off their scrapbooks, and trophies.

If I’m being honest I am not a great decorator (can you tell). So if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them! Feel free to link to any posts you have about decorating a kids room and I’ll add them to this post!
