Last weekend I attended the Stamp Craft Art Tour with my daughter. We had a great time, and learned how to make jewelry (which was unexpected) and I have been busy making necklaces ever since! I was surprised at how easy it is and decided to share this Personalized Map Necklace Tutorial with you today.

Personalized Map Necklace Supplies:
– Map Image
– Small Paint Brush
– Mod Podge
– Plastic Scraper
– Glue & Glaze
– Q-Tip
-Shaped Pendant Bezel
– Shaped Glass
– Small Sharp Scissors
– Jewelry glue dots, or heavy duty glue/glue dots
– Themed Charm (baby shoe, wedding ring, whatever your theme is, dress it up with a charm)

The first step to creating your Personalized Map Necklace is choosing your image. Once you have your image the rest is a piece of cake, or should I say jewelry. 😉 I wanted to use an image symbolizing where I got married, so I started with a small square map showing Lynnwood, WA (you can see the finished necklace at the top of this post. (The pictures will vary because I made a few different necklaces at one time to celebrate different places in my life)

After selecting my image, I used a small paintbrush to cover the front of the map image with a light coat of the Mod Podge to give my image a thin seal. I removed the excess glue from the image with a plastic scraper and let this dry for one hour.
Once it was dry, I used some Glue and Glaze to adhere my image to my heart shaped glass, using enough glue to make sure there was glue all around the edges so that I could make a seal around the edges with a Q-Tip. I allowed this to dry for 30 minutes.
When I was sure my glass pendant was dry, I used a very small, very sharp pair of scissors to trim the image around the edges of the heart shaped glass. If you haven’t’ already invested in a pair of Cutter Bee Precision-Cut Scissors you should do so now. I have been using these for years and they are amazing.
After cutting the excess image, I cleaned the glue from the front of the glass and then using a small amount of glue, glued my heart into the heart-shaped frame (This step can also be done with a two-sided heavy duty, glue dot). I then added a 24-inch chain and a wedding ring charm to the necklace completing my project. Now I have a necklace to remember my wedding day!
See what I mean? It doesn’t get much easier than that!
