As a mom who always eats six small meals a day, I have managed to train my children well in the art of snacking! It never fails, every day at 10 am and 3 pm my kids will gather for snack time. They look forward to snacking more than they look forward to mealtime, and that’s fine with me.
Since snacking is just a treat for my children I decided to do something a little different on the first day of summer end camping trip. When we camp, we always wait to purchase our food until we get to our location. It makes packing easier on me, and we don’t have food sitting on ice while we travel.
When we got to Walmart, I told the kids that I had a surprise for them since this would be our last camping trip of the summer. Of course, they were excited and immediately asked if it involved food (they know me so well). That’s when I told them that they would be planning this “SNACKCATION” by choosing their favorite Smucker’s snacks. Before they got too excited, they wanted to clarify that all four of them would get to choose their snacks, and once I confirmed the squealing commenced.
As they raced downed the aisles, I could hear the typical deals being made. Will you share with me? I’ll get this if you choose that. This is why I recommended having more than two children. It does make life a lot more interesting, gives the children a chance to learn valuable negotiating skills, and makes for thousands of hours of laughter for parents!
Lexi chose Smucker’s Squeeze because she knew it would last longer than the camping trip which meant she would be able to enjoy it the longest! Jordan wanted to try one of the Jif Chocolate Flavored Hazelnut Spreads, and after some negotiating with John, they agreed that the Chocolate Cheesecake would be the way to go.
As fate would have it, John Jr. had been begging me to purchase Jif To Go Dippers a few days before our trip. Thankfully he didn’t have to wait as long as he thought he would.
Anna being the chocolate and fruit lover she quickly chooses Jif Whips Peanut Butter and Chocolate because she wanted to dip her bananas.
It was John Sr. that surprised me the most, though. He told me that he wanted to get the Smucker’s Uncrustables because that was his favorite part of his boxed lunch when he was flying in Mobile. He said that the prepacked the lunches for the Coast Guard flights and the Uncrustables sandwich were usually the only thing in the box he looked forward to eating. I couldn’t argue with that, so I snatched up a box of those as well.
Knowing we only needed one more snack for the trip, I decided to purchase the Smucker’s Fruit Fulls because they are convenient and make my life easier. The less mess I have to clean up after snack time, the better. After all, we are camping which means even mom wants to take a break from the routine hassles of everyday life.
After loading our cart with ridiculously delicious snacks, we were ready to head to our campsite and get everything ready for a killer four day weekend.
