Root Beer Pulled Pork

Root-Beer-Pulled-Pork-Recipe

I am a pulled pork fanatic. If you take me to a new restaurant, the first thing I’m looking for on the menu is pulled pork. My husband spent his youth cooking in bbq competitions, and if you’re from the south, you know all about them. I don’t have 24 hours to cook a pig, but I do have the time to throw a pork loin in the slow cooker and let it cook for 6-8 hours. I love the way the root beer makes this pulled pork super tender, and while I would never compare it to the pork my husband cooks, this root beer pulled pork tastes great and the kids love it, so it works for me.

When it comes to pulled pork, the southern states love to fight over which state serves it best! The most popular barbecue sauce ingredients are vinegar, tomatoes, and mustard. Some would also say mayo, but ewww that’s just gross! I’m not a fan of “white sauce” but you would definitely catch me chowing down on the South Carolina mustard based sauce, and the North Carolina peppery vinegar based sauces. At the end of the day, all I ask for is tender meat, with a sauce that could win awards (is that really too much to ask?)

Of course you can eat this root beer pulled pork with or without sauce, but that’s completely up to you. I love the Sticky Finger Carolina Sweet sauce if I’m in a hurry and can’t make my own. I found this sauce at the commissary last month, so I’m not really sure what grocery stores carry it. I just add a little balsamic vinegar and it’s perfect! The kids prefer a sweeter sauce, and we all love topping it off with coleslaw!
