I have always wanted to visit Savannah Georgia. My friends have always said that Savannah is a romantic town, so I figured it would be a great place to stop on the way to Florida for our honeymoon cruise! I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do in Savannah, but I knew I wanted to eat at Paula Deen’s restaurant The Lady and Sons.
I am not a food snob, but I am also not really a huge fan of country style cooking. Kinda crazy for someone who grew up eating fat back and chicken and dumplings! The only reason I really wanted to visit The Lady and Sons was because I enjoy going to restaurants owned by famous chef’s. I actually have a “Famous Chef’s Restaurant Bucket List”.
Before our visit I decided to check out the menu online to see if they had anything I could get excited about trying. I was happy to see that they serve one southern favorite I can never pass up… shrimp and grits! I have had many varieties of shrimp and grits, but the one’s served at The Lady and Sons restaurant were unlike any I have ever had before. This dish had ham, peppers, and onions, which was a first for me. To be honest I think less is more when it comes to shrimp and grits so I would rate this meal three stars, and say it was good enough. Good enough to make it worth the price, good enough to keep me happy, but not so good that I would order it again. Next time I’m going with the meal my husband chose (and a meal I don’t normally care for).
CHICKEN POT PIE!
Seriously, that my friends, is chicken pot pie from The Lady and Sons restaurant! How awesome does that look? Not as awesome as it tastes! This pot pie was the best I have ever eaten, and I am a sucker for puffed pastry so this dish was made for me! With huge chunks of tender chicken, fresh veggies, and a delicious creamy sauce this is one dish you have to try for yourself!
For the finale we ordered Pecan Pie and Key Lime Pie. OH MY SWEET GOODNESS! The pecan pie was the most amazing pecan pie I have ever had the pleasure of hogging for myself. No, I did share, but I didn’t want to! I wish they shipped their pies because they are worth the shipping charges! If you don’t want to eat at The Lady and Sons at least stop in for a slice of pecan pie. It’s so good it should be illegal, but I’m so glad it’s not!
