Frugal Visit To New York City

Sharing is caring!

As you know I love to travel, and we just got back from an awesome road trip with Twizzlers. I loved our trip to TN, and it reminded me of another one of my favorite road trips to NYC. New York is such a fun place to visit, and they have so many exiting things to see and do, but it can get super expensive. To help save you time and money, I thought I would share a few tips for NYC travel with you.

1. Purchase an “Anti-Coupon”

Gray Line New York’s  “Eat and Play Card” is New York’s only discount card that provides savings across the board from restaurants to tours. One card is valid for up to four people and can be used over and over. The card provides travelers with discounts off of the entire bill, and provides unlimited savings potential, as all dollar savings are in direct proportion to spending. The card eliminates the time visitors spend hunting for coupons, and maximizes their time for fun. Best item- no blackout dates!

 2. Stand in Line in the Middle of Times Square

TKTS Discount Booths offer tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays at up to 50% off. The Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance tickets. With dozens of productions on sale every day, there’s something for everyone.
3. Take Advantage of Street Food

Eating street food in New York City has been considered “a rite of passage” and is also a great way to save money. For around $7, travelers can get a stack of rice, meat and vegetables large enough to even eat twice. Known as “Chicken and Rice”, the most famous one of these is located at 53rd and 6th.

 4. Visit During a “Week”

Throughout the year there are many “week” events that allows tourists and locals alike to save money on items that would usually cost twice as much. Travelers can enjoy 3-course, prix-fixe $24.07 lunches and $35 dinners at more than 250 participating NYC Restaurant Week restaurants. get a $150 spa treatment for only $50 during NYC Spa Week, and more.

5. Free Museums

Admission is always free to these museums located all around the city: Forbes Magazine Galleries, Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology, Museum of American Finance, National Museum of the American Indian, Goethe Institut, Sony Wonder Technology Lab, and Swiss Institue of Contemporary Art.
