I am so excited about this Edible Homemade Christmas Gifts post that I couldn’t wait to share it with you. It seems like time and money get short every year in December. This year is no exception. It seems like Christmas is sneaking up on us faster than ever.

Why We Give Edible Homemade Christmas Gifts

It feels like gift giving at work is a challenge for us every year. For twenty years my husband and I worked at the same company and wanted to be able to give gifts to our co-workers, but still stay in budget for the holidays. We started out by picking up tins of cookies for everyone but decided that we wanted to give something homemade the past few years. We like the idea of edible gifts since once consumed; they don’t end up in the closet or attic with the countless other gifts that don’t have daily uses.

What You Need to Make Your Edible Homemade Christmas Gifts

Ingredients to make your choice of homemade treat. (Cookies, snack mix, sweet treats, hot cocoa mix, etc.)
Treat Bags (only needed if your edible gifts require separation in the container)
Rubbermaid TakeAlongs
Ribbon
Wax Paper

Last year we gave cookies and snack mix, so this year we wanted to give something different. We decided on Marshmallow pops since they are a delicious and cheerful surprise. The Rubbermaid TakeAlongs I found on the end cap at Walmart were the answer to this gift dilemma. These containers are freezer and top rack dishwasher safe, as well as microwavable, with a soft lid that is easy to open but still seals tight. Oh, by the way, these Holiday TakeAlongs will be available in stores until December, 24th. Just in case you are really running late! 🙂

I love the limited edition colors since I can incorporate the container into part of the gift. And, the recipient can continue to use the TakeAlong for storage after eating the contents, so it serves a dual purpose. If you choose to make Marshmallow Pops to give for gifts I have included instructions below. This idea has me very excited because it is not only quick and easy to make but looks fabulous, too. The longest part of the process was waiting for the chocolate to set so I could finish the gift assembly.

How To Make Your Edible Homemade Christmas Gifts

You will need:
Marshmallows
Miniature Candy Canes
Dark Chocolate Chips
Wax paper
Sprinkles.

Step 1: Put the candy canes into your marshmallows to make your marshmallow pops.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate chips for about one minute in the microwave. The marshmallow pops will be easier to roll through the chocolate if you use a plate.

Step 3: Pour the sprinkles over the chocolate covered marshmallow.

Step 4: Place the marshmallow pops on the wax paper until the chocolate cools completely.

Step 5: Put the pops in a treat bag and tie it closed with a ribbon. Placing the treats in separate bags will keep the sprinkles and chocolate from rubbing off while in the bowl.

Step 6: Place the wrapped treats into your Rubbermaid Take Along container.

Step 7: Tie the rectangle with a beautiful ribbon.

Congratulations! You have just made sweet gifts presented in great re-usable boxes for use after the recipients have savored the treats.
