The Book Of James: Maturity In Christ

Study-Book-Of-James

As we start our journey 31 Days Through The Book Of James, I want to start with a basic overview. As I mentioned before the book of James is one of my favorite books, and I believe it is because it deals with maturity in Christ. It’s the book that comes alive when we have believed that Jesus rose from the dead, and are ready to walk with God in a new way. We are past the point of spiritual milk (or want to be), and we are hungry and thirsty for God. We desire to eat the spiritual food of the Christian walk.

This is where I am. I am tired of feeding on milk when I could be eating solid foods. I am ready to experience God in a mature way, learning how to tame my tongue, live out what I believe, break all ties to worldliness, and no longer stray from God and the church.

It’s kind of amazing that the same issues I face today, are the exact issues the Christian Jews faced when James pinned this letter.

So what can we expect to learn about as we dive into while learning about maturity in Christ?

* Dealing with problems and issues in both our personal lives and the church
* Testing of our faith
* Temptations and sin
* Living out what we believe
* Taming the tongue
* Battling worldliness
* Straying from the Lord and His church

So overall, we will be looking at spiritual immaturity in our lives. I don’t know about you, but I am ready to grow up. I’m ready to become an effective witness for Christ, I’m ready to lead others to Christ and maturity, but before I can… it’s time for me to “get real” with myself and check my own heart. I need to take a long hard look at my life, and examine where I need to make changes.

Where are you right now? Do you feel like you are still drinking spiritual milk? Are you ready for some solid foods? If so, let’s take this journey together.
