Losing weight and staying healthy are always on our minds, but there is a certain hope that comes with a new year that pushes people to get motivated and make changes in their lives. These are tips that have worked well for me over the years, and I hope you find them helpful as well!

Drink Water: I know, you’ve heard it your entire life, but it’s time to make a change. Starting today, you need to drink at least six ounces of water before you have a cup of coffee or tea. Then every time you use the restroom you need to drink another four ounces. Don’t sip it, go ahead and chug it so you can move on with your day.

Trash The Sugary Soda: There, I said it. It’s time to toss the sodas (even diet sodas) and start making better choices. If you need cold or hot drinks in your life (like I do) that feel like a treat make a switch from soda to tea and sweeten it with liquid Stevia in it.

I love tea. Hot or cold, sweet or unsweet, it all tastes great to me, but I didn’t always feel this way. I used to be a diet soda drinker, but I haven’t had a diet soda in over six months, and I don’t plan ever to have one again. Be Prepared: Nothing can throw you off your game like a cold (or worse the stomach virus). While there isn’t much we can do (besides a healthy diet and exercise) to prevent getting sick we can be prepared when we feel the sniffles coming on.

Spend Money On Yourself: When was the last time you went shopping for something you didn’t need? I hardly ever make purchases for myself that aren’t a necessity. This year I am trying to get better at saving money to splurge with. I don’t consider many things a necessity, so new make-up and beauty products are never at the top of my list. As long as you’re not going to put yourself in financial ruin, attempt to plan a monthly shopping trip where you purchase a few fun new items for yourself.
