My Grandmas Coffee Cake is one of my favorite recipes.
It’s like heaven on a plate, am I right? I love eating with my coffee, and there is no better companion to coffee than cake.

My grandma’s secret ingredients were sour cream and yogurt, with a streusel filling I could eat by itself.
This recipe reminded me of the Snickerdoodle Muffins I made several weeks ago. It is so moist and delicious.
Everybody in my house loved this one. My little Emme was even grunting for more! Shhh….yes, I give my 11-month-old cake sometimes.
Sour Cream Coffee Cake Recipe:
I’m not sure how eating cake for breakfast became a thing, but I am never going to complain about it.
I mean I guess muffins are just cupcakes without frosting so maybe most breakfast foods aren’t too far off from dessert anyway.
You have got to put this on the weekend breakfast rotation! Oh, and don’t forget your coffee! Try one of these ten gourmet coffee recipes this weekend.
Grandma’s Coffee Cake Ingredients:
To Make The Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour: This wheat flour is made from a blend of hard and soft wheat varieties and is a staple ingredient in many baked goods.
- 1 1/2 cups sugar: This sweetener provides a sweet taste to the cake. Granulated sugar is usually used in baking.
- 1 teaspoon baking powder: This leavening agent helps the cake rise.
- 1/2 teaspoon salt: This ingredient enhances the cake’s flavor and helps control the action of yeast and bacteria in the dough.
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon: This spice provides flavor and aroma to the cake. It is a common ingredient in coffee cakes.
- 2 eggs, beaten: Eggs help bind the ingredients and contribute to the cake’s structure and texture.
- 8 ounces sour cream: This ingredient provides richness, moisture, and tanginess to the cake.
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt: This ingredient provides moisture and helps to create a tender texture in the cake.
- 1 stick butter, melted: This ingredient contributes to the richness and flavor of the cake. It also helps to create a tender and fluffy texture. Some people cream butter for cakes, but my grandma never did.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: This ingredient provides flavor and aroma to the cake. Vanilla extract is a staple ingredient in many baked goods.
To Make The Streusel:
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar: This sweetener provides a caramel-like flavor to the streusel. It is darker in color and has a higher moisture content than granulated sugar.
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour: This ingredient helps to thicken the streusel and gives it structure.
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted: This ingredient contributes to the richness and flavor of the streusel. It also helps to create a crumbly texture.
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon: This spice provides flavor and aroma to the streusel. It complements the sweetness of the brown sugar and is a common ingredient in many sweet baked goods.
