James: Living Faith

So, we’ve talked about dead faith, now let’s talk about living faith!

“But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?  Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and  as a result of the works, faith was  perfected;  and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.  In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?  For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. ” James 2:20-26

So what does living faith look like? Well, it looks like Jesus. Jesus didn’t just come and see that we were sick, sinners, dead, and in need. This is what Jesus did:

Prayed For Us
Walked With Us
Healed The Sick
Fed The Hungry
Taught The Ignorant
Cleansed The Diseased & Sinful
Preached The Word Of God
Ate With Sinners & Disciples
Ministered To Those In Need
Washed Feet
–  DIED For Us

So if our faith is alive we will seek to be like Jesus. This looks different for all of us. God gives us each gifts and resources to be used by Him. He calls each one of us to do different things. Ultimately every believer is called to “Love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:31 and “to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” James 1:27 . You may or may not believe these two are meant for you, but these words were given to all of us as believers so if you don’t think they are for you, I would suggest you pray about that.

Think about your daily life. How does your faith show itself every single day? What is God calling you to do?

Living faith is an amazing thing because it only comes by the grace of God. Let’s pray.

Lord, you have made it clear in your word that faith without works is dead. I pray that you would show each and every one of us what those works are for our lives. I pray that when we see fellow Christians in need that we would sincerely pray about what our part is in meeting that need. There is a family on my heart right now Lord. They are faithful to you, and you are putting them in the middle of a hurricane right now. They know you are faithful, I know you are faithful, but Lord I pray that other Christians would rise up and say more than “be well, and go about your way”. I pray other Christians would meet their needs Lord. Please open our eyes to the truths in your word. Break down our pride and humble our hearts. Show us where you want us to walk, teach, pray, give, and minister. Don’t let our hearts settle for dead faith.

We love you Lord, help us love you more.

In Jesus name, Amen.

If you would like to learn more about the family I prayed for please check out their GoFundMe page. They are facing trials that none of us ever want to face. They could lose everything, and I know that God will meet their needs even if they do. Would you pray about whether or not God wants you to help them?

Thank you for reading! God Bless <3
