Wanna learn How To Prevent & Treat Clogged Drains? Nothing is more annoying than a sink, shower, or tub that won’t drain. Okay, there are other things that annoy me, but I hate waiting for water to go down the drain.

How To Prevent & Treat Clogged Drains

Today I want to share a few tips and tricks to help prevent and treat clogs so you’re not left waiting for that dirty water to go down the drain.

Prevention is always better than treatment in my opinion.

How To Prevent & Treat Clogged Drains:

Preventing clogs is part common sense and part preparation. Something as simple as a drain protector for your shower or a sink strainer for your kitchen sink can prevent hair, food particles and even jewelry from clogging up your precious pipes and hey it could even save your wedding rings!

Teaching your children that it’s never okay to pour grease down the drain is also a valuable lesson. I thought we had this lesson down until I learned that my children thought this only applied to HOT grease and then learned that they were waiting for the grease to cool before they poured it down the drain. WHAT? I’m not kidding!

While it may be annoying to strain and dump tiny food particles mixed with grease can quickly build up so don’t push even the smallest bits of food down the drain (I know you do it!). It’s just not worth it. This goes for coffee grounds too! Coffee belongs in two places. In your belly and in your garden! Save those grounds and place them in your garden as fertilizer.

When it comes to shower drains hair is the biggest offender. Without a drain protector hair will get in your drain no matter how hard you try to scoop it all up at the end of your shower. If you don’t plan to purchase a protector try to remember to pour a gallon of boiling water down your tub/shower drain on a monthly/bi-monthly basis (I recommend bi-monthly if you have long hair that sheds a lot) to break up hair and shampoo build up. Then continue to rinse your drain with hot water for 5-10 minutes.

How To Prevent & Treat Clogged Drains: The Treatment

When prevention doesn’t prevent clogs quick treatment is a must.

As soon as you notice you have a problem you must act fast!
