I have been reading blogging income reports for months now, and I finally decided it was time for me to follow suit. The "why" behind this small blog income report and full disclosure is because...
A) I want to hold myself accountable to working this business like a business. If I want to succeed, I am going to have to get better at planning, automating, and paying attention to how much I'm making vs. how much I'm spending. If I have to return each month to share my wins and losses, I'm much more likely to work my butt off to show improvements.
B) I want to prove to all of the small bloggers out there that it is possible to make money. I'm also going to share my favorite tools and tools that were a total waste. Hopefully, this will be helpful to someone else.
Let's start with blog traffic. Below is my traffic for the month of August:
I use two sites to view my traffic Google Analytics and StatCounter here's what they show:
As you can see both have different results and honestly, who knows what can be trusted. For the sake of my sanity and yours, we will just say August stats were this: 11,000 Uniques and 15,600 Page Views. Does that work for you? Good cause, it works for me. I have never been one to be overly concerned about my traffic, but losing my old domain cost me a lot of views. I've been working for two years to get to this point, and it hasn't been easy. Before I lost my old domain I had 1,000 - 3,000 views on any given day. Here's the thing, I can't change it; so I have to do the best I can with what I have, and that's what I'm doing.
Traffic Goal for September: My goal for September is 16,600 page views, an increase of 1,000 page views. I like to keep my goals attainable because I don't want to get discouraged.
I'm not going to focus on social followers this month because I don't have the numbers I started with in August. So I'll just share my goals today. These are the number of followers I need to reach my year-end goals for my social media accounts.
Social Media Goals for September:
You can check back next month to see if I met these numbers. I'll also be sharing what I am doing to try to reach these goals.
Money Money Money:
August was a super busy month for me. I felt like my blog was finally resurrected, and I worked harder than I have in a while! I also landed a job as a Campaign Leader for Social Fabric, so that was a blessing for sure.
What I Earned In August 2015:
Total earnings: $3,301.33
Overall I am happy with what I earned in August. My goal for each month has been $2,000, and I have only hit that twice.
September Income Goal: $5,000
In August, I just winged it. I didn't have a strategy, and I was blessed with lots of work. My goal for September is to plan, plan, and plan some more. I want to start scheduling my social shares and implement new skills. I want to take classes, read articles, and try out new programs. I can't wait to give you an update next month and let you know what I tried.
I signed up for a few things at the beginning of September, and I will let you know how they worked next month. Here's what I'm currently trying out:
CoSchedule - I'm using this to revive old posts and schedule social media shares for each post I publish! I love that you can schedule out a month and after that can choose custom times to share. So far, I love it. You can read my current review here: Is CoSchedule For The Small Blogger?
Tailwind App for Pinterest - I'm using this to schedule my pins for Pinterest and it is AMAZING! I have already seen growth on Pinterest and I know it's all due to this fabulous company.
If you're reading this, and you have a small blog, I'm telling you... YOU CAN DO THIS! There are bloggers with the same traffic as me making MORE money! Don't give up!! 🙂 If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! I would love to help you in any way I can.
I'll probably share another post this weekend of my current goals and try to follow it up next month.
